Notre Dame Gate

The five levels that constitute this structure make Notre Dame gate the tallest building in the Cottonera area. Constructed by Grand Master Fra Nicola Cotoner in 1675 as the main point of entry to Cottonera, it was named after the Our Lady of Graces, patron of the nearby town of Zabbar. It is one of the original seven gates along the Cottonera line of bastions. It is also known as the Cotoner Gate, Zabbar Gate and Bieb is-Sultan. On the topmost tier is prominently located bronze effigy of Grand Master Cotoner.

It now serves as the headquarters of Fondazjoni Wirt Artna (FWA). Visiting this site is possible but prior arrangements need to be made by contacting FWA on (+356) 21800992, (+356) 21803091 during regular office hours, from Monday to Friday.
