Palazzo Bettina is named after its former owner Elizabeth Dorell Muscat. She was an important benefactor to the Church of St. Lawrence. St. Emilia de Vialar, founder of the Sisters of the Apparition resided here in 1845. The marble plaque on façade of the building erroneously claims that Palazzo Bettina is the birthplace of the first Maltese clergyman to be ordained Cardinal, Fabricius Sciberras Testaferrata. Cardinal Sciberras Testaferrata was in fact born in Valletta. Palazzo Bettina is currently not accessible to the public as works are underway to transform it into a luxury guest house.
