The Grand Masters' Palace served as the Residence of the Grand Masters of the order until 1964. Thereafter it became the official residence of the governor General. It has housed the Office of the president of the Republic since 1974. The Parliament is also located within this building. The Palace is replete with works of art, notably the Gobbelin Tapestries in the Council Chamber, depicting scenes featuring exotic animals. The iconic bronze statue of Neptune in the courtyard named after him was created by Giambologna.

The Armoury contains a sizeable collection Knights' armour and weaponry such as pistols, cannons and cannonballs.
