St. James Cavalier

Centre for Creativity, Castille Square (Pjazza Kastilja), Valletta. Tel: +356 21223200; http://www.sjcav.org

Originally a 16th Century fort, St. James Cavalier was conceived as a vantage point to launch projectiles against land attacks. The building was redefined in the year 2000 when it was converted into the St. James Cavalier Centre for Creativity as we know it today. This project was entrusted to the well known Maltese architect, Richard England. It functions as a cultural centre, and is well known for art exhibitions and music recitals, together with theatrical performances in its theatre-in-the-round. There is also a small cinema which screens mostly alternative movies from Europe and beyond.
